International Day of Education
Today is World Education Day – International Day of Education. This year's theme, 2026, is: "The power of youth in co-creating education." World Education Day is celebrated annually on January 24th to recognize the role of education in peace and sustainable development. It aims to highlight that education is a human right, a public good, and a public responsibility.
Educational Evidence - Fostering Development and a Connection to Nature Internationaler Tag der Bildung
Heute ist World Education Day - Internationaler Tag der Bildung. Das Motto in diesem Jahr 2026: "Die Kraft der Jugend bei der Mitgestaltung von Bildung" (The power of youth in co-creating education). Der Tag der Bildung wird jährlich am 24. Januar begangen um die Rolle der Bildung für Frieden und nachhaltige Entwicklung zu würdigen. Er soll darauf aufmerksam machen, dass Bildung ein Menschenrecht, ein öffentliches Gut und eine öffentliche Verantwortung ist.
What role does playing in the mud play in this? A significant one: because the connection to the earth, to nature, makes children (and adults too) more aware of their responsibility for the environment. We can only truly appreciate and protect what we know. Playing in the mud stimulates all the senses, and without meaning, there can be no learning. This year's theme perfectly reflects the implementation of this idea through mud and clay building games. Time and again, paved and concreted schoolyards are transformed into natural landscapes for the students – children and adults working side by side. Children design their own learning spaces – with the support of adults.

Welche Rolle spielt hier das Spielen im Matsch? Sehr viel: Denn die Verbundenheit zur Erde, zur Natur macht Kindern (und auch Erwachsenen) bewusster um ihre Verantwortung für die Natur. Nur was ich kenne, weiß ich auch zu schätzen und zu schützen. Spielen im Matsch regt alle Sinne an, und ohne Sinn wird auch keine Bildung stattfinden. Das diesjährige Thema spiegelt sehr gut die Umsetzung der Idee in Form von Matsch- und Lehmbau Spielen. Immer wieder werden zugeteerte und betonierte Schulhöfe aufgebrochen und in Naturlandschaften für die Schüler*Innen verwandelt - Kinder und Erwachsene Seite an Seite. Kinder gestalten ihre Bildungsräume selbst - mit Unterstützung der Erwachsenen.
