What is a Porkomancer?

This is a portmanteau word, combining "porko" for "pig" and "mancer," derived from "romancer" for "romantic." Porkomancers are therefore people who have a passion for pigs. This passion signifies a friendly affection for all kinds of pigs. A Porkomancer is usually friends with at least one pig. They don't keep the animal like livestock, but rather like a pet (such as a dog or a cat), providing it with everything it needs. Porkomancers also advocate for the lives of pigs and reject all animal products; they are vegetarians.

Porko Initiative Grunting Soulmates (PIGS)

The Porko Initiative Grunting Soulmates (PIGS) was founded in 2024 as an independent organization to ensure the well-being of both people and their pigs. PIGS protects and promotes the human-pig relationship and respects human rights as well as animal welfare laws and regulations.

PIGS was founded on the idea that a kind and respectful relationship between humans and animals will make the world a more peaceful and compassionate place. Animals—especially pigs—are no longer seen as "food" for carnivorous humans, but as sentient beings who can bring joy to people. The relationship between humans and pigs is therefore based on mutual respect and compassion.

Both humans and pigs benefit from this relationship. The pig is respected as a sentient being, and the human receives attention and experiences a friendship based on genuine trust without material conditions.

PIGS was founded on the idea that a kind and respectful relationship between humans and animals will make the world a more peaceful and compassionate place. PIGS operates in all parts of the world and wants to be particularly active where little or no attention is paid to the rights of humans and animals.

The National Pig Day

National Pig Day is an annual event celebrated on March 1 in the United States, primarily in the Midwest. It was established in 1972 by two sisters, Ellen Stanley (a teacher from Texas) and Mary Lynne Rave (from North Carolina). The sisters created the day to "accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and domesticated animals". It honors the intelligence, social nature, and contribution of pigs to agriculture and culture.

The day is marked by various community and educational events:
Public Events: Zoos, schools, and nursing homes host parades, "snort-off" competitions, and displays of pig collectibles. There is a long-standing divide on how to best honor the animal; some celebrate by eating pork products (like bacon and ham), while animal rights groups advocate for a "meat-free" day to honor the pig's sentience.
